| Why is My Computer Taking Longer to Boot Up? |
|
Do you wish that your computer would boot up as fast as it did when you first bought it? The truth is many PC users expect their computer to perform just as fast as it gets older and they add more programs to it. Well it is possible to help your PC perform at its optimum performance as long as you take some steps to maintain it. It really can drive you mad when your computer takes a long time to boot up.
It used to boot up so fast and you didn't have to wait to long for it to do so. So, what really causes computers to boot at a snail's pace? First you have to keep in mind that computers are devices that are not maintenance free. You should probably be aware that all sorts of software and hardware maintenance are required even if you are not a computer techie. A proper maintenance procedure will enable your computer to function to its optimal speed. Unfortunately, some PC users do all the wrong things when faced with a problem of a slow computer. Some opt to install a new version of Windows or to reinstall their existing version just to speed up their PC. But this could be very costly and/or time consuming especially if you have important files on your system and you don't know how to back it all up. One way to speed up a sluggish computer is change the options so that unused programs will do not start to run every time you open up your PC. Make sure that newly installed programs do not automatically start each time you use your computer. It is also a good idea to uninstall any programs that you are no longer using. Unfortunately just deleting programs isn't enough as some of its entries get left behind in the windows registry. So if you noticed your computer is booting up really slowly, then go to the control panel then click the add/remove icon. Next, simply select the program you no longer want to use and permanently remove it. This can have the added benefit of speeding up your PC as well as a quicker boot time. The windows registry is a database of all the settings for your computer's hardware and software. Whenever you boot your PC, some of the settings have to be accessed in the windows registry setting, but the problem is your registry tends to grow and grow as unnecessary entries caused by installing and uninstalling programs build up. When the size of the registry grows, the system will take longer and longer accessing the settings it needs whenever you boot up your computer. This is another reason why your computer is taking too long to boot up. So something else you can do to speed up your computer is to get rid of these unwanted entries in the windows registry, you can download a good registry cleaner online. You can obtain a free registry cleaner but a paid for version will have many extra features (like backup and restore of your windows registry) that will be of benefit in providing a good maintenance procedure. Registry cleaners are used to scan your computer registry for errors and fix them for you. Once your Windows registry is cleaned up and you have removed any unwanted programs, the performance of your PC will improve.
